The LOTR movies did reasonable justice to the uplifting nobility that permeates Tolkien's great work. The contrast between these fictional noble leaders and our own self-serving and corrupt leaders is a bitter one. I guess that's why they call these types of works "fantasy".
Don't forget, though, that even 'Mordor' called the shots even in LOTR (until Fordo did his ring tossing) - and we can attempt to overcome evil by striving to not be like the evildoers.
