To the Bulletin:
The battle lines in the United States are drawn, and the objectives of each side are very clear.
Political party No. 1: Bring democracy back to America.
Political party No. 2: Dismantle the U.S. government and replace it with powerful corporations.
Which country do you want for your grandchildren?

So how about a probable race pitting Obama against Rick Perry?
What are the objectives of those two sides? And what kind of country would each lead us to?
Nervous Nancy doesn't tell us which party is which ;-)
Being from Amherst, I think we can guess.
But, seriously, it seems to me both parties are in bed with malignant corporate interests and both parties are committed to our system of fake democracy.
Yes, only a fool or a paid hack would incessantly cheerlead for either entity.
And it's sorry that so many denizens of our 'democracy' are so cluless.
Still a little comic relief comes in handy now and then (which is why I post some of this stuff),
and, Allan, I don't think there's one man or woman or party that can get us out of this unsustainable mess.
I think most of our problems are of a spiritual nature.
Still it would help to have someone at the top who, at the least, can cut government drastically and use the top dog spot as a bully pulpit to address the employment issue.
What do you think, Mr. Wall?
I'd like to have a president who actually thinks we should control immigration: seal off the border, start deporting illegals, enforce the law. Then work with Congress to reduce legal immigration by about 90%. Oh, and close up the anchor baby loophole. That'd help our economy a lot. With 14 million unemployed, why do we need immigrants?
Then let's have a drastic military re-deployment abroad, bringing most of the troops home to help on the border and making sure those who remain abroad have clear missions, are well-protected and aren't mixed up in Middle Eastern politics.
Then how about major cuts and elimination of various government departments? Oh, and how about the elimination of affirmative action?
And that's just for starters.
I don't foresee any of these candidates doing that.
Certainly not Rick Perry, who would probably be another George Bush type.

No, not those two. Virgil Goode, the possible Constitution Party presidential candidate, is likely to run on your dream platform, though.
Ah yes, Virgil Goode. Now you're talking. However, what can we do with the Constitution Party? I voted for its candidate in 2004 as a protest against Bush. However, it usually gets what, 1 or 2% of the vote? How can we make it a contender?
Allan, we have to use our various platforms to get the word out. Reform takes hard work and years, and, sometimes doesn't occur. (Take ballot acess in OK ...)
However, we still have the responsiblity to keep trying.
I, for one, wish these alternative candidates were invited to the national debates.
Yes, but we need some more effective strategies, because the ones these third party types have been using aren't working.
If you can come up with a possible winning strategy, I'm sure they'd love to hear it.
Well, it's something to work on. Somehow, we've got to move beyond "preaching to the choir" and reach a wider audience of potentially sympathetic Americans. The time is ripe.
Thom Holmes, who is very active in the Constitution Party and is a great guy, lives in OK. Email me if you want contact information.
Which party is more Populist? The GOP rank & file are, but as to leadership == at least in Massachusetts -- I am starting to think the Dems are slightly, ever so much slightly more populist...
Depends what you mean by populist, Ed.
Izzy, you haven't seen the depths that the mASSgop has sunk -- although this is reflective of it:

And I am serious about joining the UM Dems. I have had ENOUGH!
Ed, I encourage you to shop around, intellectually-speaking, before you throw your lot in with Democrats in the bluest state.

Izzy -- none of those three are permitted on the UM Amherst campus. It is the Dems 'n' the Schmucks and in warfare, your enemy's enemy is your friend.
And the way the Schmucks are going after me, this is warfare.
Not permitted? I bet FIRE would go after them if that's the case.
